Two buildings constructed of sandstone are set beside the central dome, one of them a mosque to the west and the other a guest house to the east. Decorating the outside is a garden fit to match the beauty of the building. The mausoleum is constructed of white marble, symmetrical to perfection and towering at 240 feet with a dome on top. The building’s interior is intricate with calligraphy and adorned with semiprecious stones. It took around 22 years to construct and required blood, sweat and tears from 20,000 people and even 1,000 elephants. It has withstood the trials of time, including looting and invasion. It dates to 1647, ordered built by India’s Mughal emperor at the time, Shah Jahan. The creation of this beautiful mausoleum was inspired by sorrow, love, loss and heartbreak. It is located next to the Yamuna river near, Agra, India. The first mentioned mausoleum, is the Taj Mahal, an iconic building that most have set eyes on at some point in their lives.
